- Have a social mission, not just a business purpose. Facebook's higher purpose is "to make the world more open and connected." Zuckerberg was quoted in the May 2012 issue of Forbes magazine as saying:

building something that actually makes a really big change in the world."
- Make changes. Facebook has been known for moving quickly and irritating its users when something they launched did not work. Many of these new products have been successfully turned around. But, regardless of whether they were abandoned or turned around, Zuckerberg believes constant change is what has made Facebook a success.
- Take Risks. If you are afraid to take risks, you will never succeed. Being willing to fail is a necessary part of success.
- "Move Fast and Break Things" has become a motto of Facebook. Zuckerberg explains that when you move quickly, things inevitably break. Successful companies are not stagnant. They are moving forward all the time. When you move quickly, you may make a mistake. It's not the mistake that's important; it's that you continue to move forward.
- Find people who complement your skills. Zuckerberg believes in order to be successful, a business must have a cohesive team of employees who complement one another's strengths and weaknesses. He spends approximately a quarter of his time recruiting, interviewing, and looking both inside and outside of the company for the perfect people to take on more impactful roles.
- Your team must support your vision. You have created this business with a road map outlining where you plan to end up. Every member of your team must support this direction and be planning to arrive at the final destination with you.
- Concentrate on growth. Once you are happy with your product, then you should sign up a team of the top sales people to help your business grow.
- Provide Value for Customers. Always stay focused on providing value to your customer.
